We at FOSTERING INDEPENDENCE firmly believe and encourages choice and control of individual, families as a way of thinking about how you arrange your care and support
We listen and work with you and people who are important in your life to develop and provide person centred, flexible support that works for you.
Four Principle we are committed to:
⦁ Treating people with dignity, compassion and respect
Clients often lose their independence when they enter care, which puts their dignity at risk. Person-centred care enables you to maintain that dignity by respecting their wishes and treating them with compassion and empathy.
To fulfil this principle, you must always keep in mind that patients have their own thoughts, feelings, opinions, beliefs, and values, and these don’t suddenly become invalidated by their care needs. Respecting their personal qualities helps the patient feel validated and cared for much more wholly: both physically and emotionally.
⦁ Providing coordinating care, support and treatment
To deliver consistent person-centred care, you have to coordinate with other health and social care workers and services. Otherwise, when clients move between services or carers, you have to rebuild an understanding of their personal wants and needs. In the meantime, the Client would not receive the level of care they need.
Client personal needs to be recorded in their care plan and must be accessible to other care services/providers in order to setup a communication to build a common understanding on how to deliver a person-centred support and services.
⦁ Offer personalised care and support
This principle is at core of the person-centred support as the standard approach may not work for all clients, whereas personalising services to each client allows them to be independent and fulfills their own choices, wishes and needs.
⦁ Enabling clients to develop their strengths and abilities to live their life independently
This principle will play a greater role for client to realize their potential which will give them greater control of their life and decrease dependence on service providers.
The main aim is to develop the capabilities, skills of clients to make their own decisions and have a greater say in the services
